The Montecristo Espada is the first 100% Nicaraguan Montecristo cigar made from tobaccos from all over Nicaragua...and Nestor Plasencia is at the forefront of it all. A few years ago, Montecristo's revered blending team, the Grupo de Maestros, came to an agreement with the Plasencia family of tobacco growers that granted them access to their most exquisite leaves. This led to the creation of the Montecristo Espada, a cigar that became renowned for its excellence. So successful was the original blend, the Grupo de Maestros went back to Plasencia's stores and crafted an even more outstanding variety: The Montecristo Espada Oscuro. With this revised edition, the 2010 Jalapa Habano wrapper has been replaced with a vintage Habano Rosado Oscuro.

Montecristo Espada Quillon has landed. Making a debut as Montecristo's first Nicaraguan puro, the cigar is crafted from Cuban-seed Habano leaves from Jalapa for both its wrapper and binder and is filled with a combination of tobaccos from Jalapa, Ometepe, and Condega. The Quillon draws its name from the Espada Ropera—an extravagant sword intended for civilian use rather than warfare—and mirrors this luxurious character in its intense spiciness and ornate three dimensional band.

In 2014, Altadis and the Plasencia family launched the Montecristo Espada line - a cigar made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. The Montecristo Espada Oscuro is their latest creation, featuring an Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper. All other tobaccos remain unchanged from the original release. This new cigar has been developed by Rafael Nodal in conjunction with Pedro Ventura, head of Altadis' prestigious Grupo de Maestros.
